Please pray for Haiti...

Just wanted to let you know what has been going on in Haiti the past couple of days. The common people of Haiti are upset with the fact that food prices are going up and the people can not afford to continue buying food!! In turn they have take to the street to protest. You cannot get to and from [the capitol] Port au Prince. In turn the stores in Jacmel are running out of things. The power company is running out of fuel to provide us with power. Our generator decided to break the other day, too, so we are here without power at this point.

Please keep us in your prayers. Please pray that diesel can make it to Jacmel in the next day or two. Pray that we will have enough drinking water to get through. Pray for the people and the country of Haiti...

Many people are praying for you these days, since the news in the U.S. has brought the riots (due to skyrocketing food prices) to our attention. I just blogged about the situation yesterday. This is my entire blog entry:

"Yesterday at the park I met a 90-year-old woman from Germany. She told me a long, intriguing story about how poor they were in Germany after World War I. You could tell how poor the other kids were, she said, by what their mothers put in their sandwiches at school. The rich kids got ham or sausage. The poorer kids got jam or molasses. The poorest kid's mom sent him to school with two slices of white bread with a slice of brown bread in between.

I asked if she had read the recent stories about how people in Haiti are so hungry, they're eating "mud cookies" with a little vegetable oil and salt. "That is too bad," she said without shock; "they want to fill their stomachs. I understand that."

So of *course* we are praying for a quick and caring solution to this crisis. "God hears the cry of the oppressed." Bless you as you care for the orphans there. Let us know what we can do here.

My husband and I were so saddened to hear about the riots in Haiti - we have met several local men (Theophile and Cadet, in particular) believe it or not, while cruising with Royal Caribbean. They stop at their "private" beach at Labadee in Haiti. We saw firsthand on our first trip when the locals who were serving us, the cruise passengers, lunch then took our plates, keeping anything leftover from our plates to pack up boxes to send home with the local workers - and this was years ago. We have kept in touch with some of these men, and have come on cruises with loaded suitcases to leave with them, as supplies and clothing are often more important than money - especially if supplies can't get there. We pray with our 3 year old daughter every night that the children of Haiti have food to eat - we will continue to pray and send support as we can. God has given us a heart for Haiti and we know that He will provide for His children in Haiti despite the violent situation there at this time. God Bless, Allison

Hello,
I'm a late comer, been wonderful to learn about the good things through difficult times that have been happening at Jacmel H&F family.
I don't think I understand what it's like from my background - but hurts. Will pray to the creator our maker God.
